February kicks off with a rather sizzling New Moon in Aquarius, which will be exact at 11:03pm on the 4th Feb in South Africa, and will hopefully start to liberate the somewhat stuck, challenging energy that has been around over the last couple of weeks. Despite all the planets being direct and getting through the eclipse season, many people have asked me what’s going on “up there” and whether “something” is retrograde. Well, no… all the planets are still direct, until 5th March, when Mercury starts its retrograde cycle.
So then why? Well… astrologically, Mars, the planet of forward movement has been in a square to good old Saturn, a connection that is often referred to as the handbrake / head against the wall syndrome. One step forward and a couple back. This connection can also make us feel more tired or weary or NAAFI than normal.
Mars is a masculine planet that represents forward momentum, striving towards our goals and our physical vitality and energy levels. In Aries, he is in full warrior mode, brandishing his sword to cut through the dross, impatient to get things MOVING! But the wise old codger Saturn in Capricorn is standing on the side-lines, reminding us to be responsible adults and not to make stupid, impulsive decisions.
Thankfully, things change constantly up there in the cosmos, as they do right here on our little blue planet. Mars is now separating from Saturn and moving towards Uranus (ruler of this new moon). He is also moving into a square with intense, transformational Pluto, both of which will be active this new moon.
So… lets translate that into English…
Leading up to and on either side of the New moon, there is likely to be some strong, intense, anxious, irritable, impatient, possibly combative energy around, which could, if unchecked, lead to explosive and/or intense encounters and situations.
Remember to earth yourself regularly, drink plenty of water, be careful on the roads and breeeeeathe!
On the upside (and there’s a big upside to this one) the Moon is accompanied by the Sun and Mercury and all three of them are in a beautiful flowing connection to benevolent, expansive Jupiter in Sagittarius. This alignment unlocks a strong maverick, liberating “ Free Spirit” energy for the month ahead.
Aquarius is the sign of the maverick, visionary, freedom lover and innovator, the one who marches to the beat of her own drum, dislikes limitations of all kinds and has perfected the art of leaping out of the box, or getting rid of the box altogether. This new moon has the potential to give us a proverbial kick up the butt to get out of any unhealthy ruts we may have fallen into and to set new intentions that are aligned to the unique vision we have for our lives. (I have two more spaces on my Vision Board Workshop on 9th Feb to make the most of this energy (only 2 spots available) Email me for details.
I often find myself asking, if happiness, vigour, vitality and vision are our birth right, why we so often sabotage them, before they have a chance to manifest in our lives? Perhaps because we know that in order to start something fresh and new, it’s possible that we may have let go of something that isn’t right for us, move into the unknown, confront something unpleasant or disappoint somebody.
Whenever we set intentions, we’re inviting the Universe to join us in co-creating something new and that always means that something will change. The fear of change can keep us doing the same thing over and over again.
And so… we keep singing the same song, doing things the same way, staying in our comfort zones, even though they’re often anything but comfortable, often becoming prisons, which prevent us from growing and learning.
When we push the limits, they move – and this Moon is suggesting that we do just that!
The situations in our lives that make us feel irritated, fearful, nervous, overwhelmed, inhibited or even angry, will usually tell us where we are repeating the same patterns and behaviours over and over again.
As Einstein apparently said, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results”. So, if we want something we’ve never had, we’ve got to do something we’ve never done!
With Pluto as part of this cosmic party, now is the perfect time to dig a little deeper!
- Ask yourself where you repeat the same behaviours, and how they are serving you – (and they are serving you on some level, otherwise you wouldn’t be repeating them).
- What areas of your life feel stuck, limited or just too damned comfortable?
- What are you afraid will change, if YOU change?
What if, this New Moon, we infuse something “new” and exciting into our lives. Go somewhere different, take an alternative route to work, try something adventurous, get a funky haircut, chat with people we wouldn’t normally chat to? Maybe pretend that we’re on holiday in our own city?
The good news is that every time we do something new, we literally start to form new neural pathways in our brains, which get stronger and stronger each time we practice. Eventually, if we work on stretching ourselves, we won’t be afraid of anything! Imagine that!

ASTROLOGY CONSULTS – YOUR SOLAR RETURN
Each year, the sun returns to the same position it was on the day you were born. This is called your Solar Return, which is why we wish people Many Happy Returns on their birthday. After you’ve had your natal chart done, its a good idea to have an update once a year. This is a stand alone chart, which gives you a weather report for the year ahead. Referring to this during the year, will help you to stay on track with your Soular Power. We will also look at transits and progressions to your natal chart, which remains your fundamental Astrological blueprint.
I also do readings to help to bring understanding to your relationships with your children, partners and colleagues.
